These are just a few of some of the most common anxiety symptoms. Here is a list of some of the ways to help you feel some relief of some of these symptoms. What you are aiming for is to interrupt your anxiety thought process through the techniques below.

10 Ways To Help Relieve Your Symptoms Now

  1. 4, 6, 8 Deep Breathing: Control your breathing. When you are having anxiety, people tend to breathe very shallow. Use your diaphragm and take some nice big deep breaths. Breathe in for 4 seconds, then exhale all the way out. Then breathe in for 6 seconds, then breathe all the way out, finally breathe in for 8 seconds, then breathe all the way out. This should start to help you feel a little anxiety relief.
  2. Meditate : Sit in a quiet spot and listen to a guided meditation app such as Headspace or Calm . These are both free to try. There are also many really great free guided meditation videos on Youtube. Try listening to an anxiety relief guided meditation and use the #1 tip, which is deep breathing.
  3. Accept That You Are Anxious : I have learned this the hard way. When we fight the anxious thoughts, it is sometimes counterintuitive. Eventually this can backfire, and next time you’re anxious it can get worse. Accept that you are anxious and tell yourself, you are going to be just fine. You will be!!! Take a few of those deep breaths I just talked about.
  4. Try Not To Overthink It : Realize that your mind is playing tricks on you, and things are alright. Try to focus on what is going on right now. Don’t think about tomorrow or all the things you need to do, or the “what ifs.” Concentrate on yourself right now. Your mind and thoughts are what is making you anxious.
  5. Focus On Something : Focus on something that is around you. It can be a certain color, or an object and just focus on that. Doing this will take your focus off of your anxiety. It is a great way to break out of the thoughts your anxiety is currently focused on.
  6. Take A Bath, A walk, or Try and Keep Busy : Keeping busy and moving helps relieve anxiety, again it takes the focus off of what your brain is thinking, and you end up staying busy with other things. Once your focus is elsewhere, you’ll quickly realize your anxiety has diminished or is gone completely.
  7. Talk To Someone You Trust : This is so important. It’s hard when you are struggling alone and have nobody to talk to. I usually end up talking to my husband when I am very anxious. He doesn’t struggle with anxiety the same way I do, and probably doesn’t understand what I am going through, but he listens. So find someone who will listen. Talk to a counselor, a trusted friend, a husband or wife. Someone you trust. Let them know how you are feeling. It helps to get the way you are feeling out there.
  8. Cut Out Caffeine : Sometimes coffee is my trigger and I know because after an hour of drinking it, I become extremely anxious. Sometimes caffeine and sugar can make you feel jittery and anxious, so when you are feeling like this already it’s best to either cut back or stay away from it all together until you are feeling better. Try some decaffeinated teas. I like decaffeinated green tea. It is so soothing. There are also other types of teas that don’t have any caffeine such as chamomile. Try and find one type you like.
  9. What Relaxes You? : Is it listening to soothing music? Reading a book? A crossword puzzle or baking? Whatever it is, find something that relaxes you. It will take your mind off the anxiety quickly and it will help you to feel good in the meantime. It is a great form of self care.
  10. Laugh : Its true, laughter is the best medicine. According to researchers, laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the bodies natural feel good chemical. This helps with the release of stress and anxiety.
