I have always been so intimidated about finding the perfect swimsuit for my body, especially going into different stores and trying them on in dressing rooms. But nowadays, with the internet and online shopping, you can do it from the privacy of your own home and order a swimsuit with a couple of taps of your mouse or cell phone. Voila!

But how do you know if what you just ordered will look good on your body shape? I rely a lot on reviews and what others say about the swimsuit. But what if you could find a swimsuit that seemed made for you? Like a custom tailor? Let’s dive into a little bit about your body shape and see if we can get you that perfect swimsuit that was just made just for you.

The Pear Shape – Triangle

I will start with the pear shape since this is where I am. So what is a pear shape body, you ask? Someone with a pear-shaped body is usually bigger on the bottom, meaning your hips are bigger than your bust. So pear-shaped people naturally want to find a swimsuit that plays up their top half.

  • Find swimsuits that draw your eyes and attention upward.
  • Find bold prints and medium to large ruffles on top.
  • Find swimsuits with more of a plunging neckline that also draws the focus away from your bottom half.
  • Try wearing a swimsuit with a sarong or beautiful coverup, which can also add some flair to your suit.
  • Try many styles, and don’t hesitate to leave your comfort zone.

The Apple Shape – Circle

So you may be asking yourself what is an apple shape. Well, an apple body shape is a body type where this body shape has no defined definition in the waist. Also, your hips are about as wide as your shoulders. Here the focus will be on the lower half instead of the pear shape.

  • Find swimsuits that draw your attention away from your middle and focus on the lower part of your body—trying to recreate an illusion that you have a waistline.
  • Perfect swimsuits for apple shape body types would be a suit that had ruching around the stomach area. Deep V-neck suits that draw your attention away from your middle; if you opt for a two-piece, try opting for one that has a higher waistline.
  • Try a suit with color blocking and a dark bottom.
  • Don’t be afraid to experiment and see what looks best on your body type. You might be surprised.

The Inverted Triangle Shape

You have an inverted triangle body shape if your shoulders are wider than your hips. Your waist may be less defined, and your body tapers downward. This body type is called ” strawberry” or a “cone.”

  • Find swimsuits that emphasize your hips. You definitely want to play the opposite and bring your eyes downward.
  • Opt for necklines such as a sweetheart neckline that have plenty of support,
  • Try a peplum bathing suit or a flared skirt.
  • If a skirt is not your cup of tea, try dark tops, super bright bottoms, and halter tops.
  • Again, don’t be afraid to play with different colors and suit styles.

The Hourglass Shape

So what is an hourglass body shape, your asking? An hourglass body shape has a proportionate width to the shoulders and hips with an accentuated waist. Usually, ladies with this body style have fuller hips, a fuller bust size, and fuller hips.

  • Look for bikinis with halter tops and deep V-necks to accentuate your bust area.
  • Details around the middle, like ruching, designs, and ruffles, help accentuate your middle.
  • Also, a one-piece is super flattering for your hourglass body type.
  • Try a fuller coverage bottom to help create a more balanced proportion between your hips and stomach area.
  • Don’t be afraid to try different swimsuits until you find one you’re happy with.

The Rectangle Shape – Square

Last but not least is our rectangle or square body shape. Your bust, waist, and hip measurements resemble this body shape.

  • Look for swimsuits with vertical stripes, and avoid stripes that run horizontally.
  • Stick with a halter top and tank top style suits up top for a more flattering look.
  • The goal is to find a swimsuit that distracts the eyes from focusing on the straightness of your rectangle body.
  • Find suits to enhance your bust and widen your hips or slim them down.
  • Find suits and patterns that accentuate this body type, like ruffles up top or high-leg bottoms.
