Makeup organization is something I have always struggled with. As I was going through my makeup the other day, I realized just how unorganized my makeup really is. I have lipstick in one drawer and foundation somewhere else. Some of my makeup is old and expired, and it’s hard to keep track of what I have. So I thought to myself, what do I already have that I can use to organize my makeup, and make finding what I am looking for a little easier?
I started looking around and found a few easy ways to organize my makeup with a few things that I already had lying around the house. Here is a list that I came up with that can help you organize some of your makeup items using some of the organization ideas that I mention down below. You may already have a few of these things lying around the house. If not, for some suggestions, I have included links to some of the items that I will be mentioning.
Eyeglass Case for Makeup Brushes
I had this eyeglass case for many years and I loved the print so I never got rid of it. I never knew what to do with this case other than to store glasses, so I started thinking a little bit and realized it’s a great way to store makeup brushes. This way you’ll never lose track of your brushes or other items you decide to store in them. They’ll always be in one place. This is such a great idea, as so many people probably just end up throwing out their eyeglass case out once they are finished with it.
A Utility Cart
I bought this cart to go into my office months ago for office supplies, but quickly realized I was using it more for makeup and beauty products. I had a couple of makeup bags and some storage containers that I got from Target and was storing them in my cart like the picture shown below. You could try something like this and see if that works for you, or you could use the entire cart as a station. I love this idea. I may end up doing this in the future. I got this cart when it was on sale at Michaels. This is such a fun makeup organization idea.
Makeup Bags
This one is pretty much a no brainer but something I still use, especially when I am carting makeup around with me. I have a lot of different makeup bags that I have saved from over the years as gifts, and some that came in monthly beauty boxes. TIP: They also make pretty photo props and can be used for many other purposes. I have used them for all sorts of things. For example, some for makeup, specifically makeup brushes or an entire bag for cotton balls and nail polish. You can also use makeup bags for pens and pencils, arts and crafts and other small items. The uses are endless.
Desk Organizers
Believe it or not desk organizers work really well for makeup organization. Here are a few ideas that I came up with, just by looking through my office. I already had all of these items shown here for quite a while now.
- Pencil / Pen Organizer I got these back around Valentine’s Day at Target in the dollar bin area. I am sure you can’t find them anymore, so here is a link to something similar on Amazon called Coolrunner Metal Rose Flower Hollow Pencil holder. These make great places to store makeup brushes, lip pencils, lipsticks, mascaras, and eyeliners. I also have used these for pencils and pens.
2. Small Desk Organizer desk organizers work well and you can get them at Target. They come in a pack of 3 for $2. I picked myself up 2 packs of each one and these are awesome for makeup organization. Here are two different types, a longer one and one more of a square idea. Both work great.
Rose Gold Organizer I don’t know if you’d call this necessarily a desk organizer but I actually had this left over from our wedding last year. We have a box of them and I grabbed a few and brought them into my office. I figured these would make great office/ makeup organizers and I was right. I found one identical to the one here in the photo. A Rose gold desk drawer organizer on Amazon.
Small Boxes
I love saving small pretty boxes for storage. I got this particular one from a coffee mug I bought a few months back. If you’re anything like me, you only save stuff knowing that you’ll end up using it for something later on. I actually stash my nail polishes in here along with Bath and Body Works hand sanitizers . What a mix! But you could use these for anything such as beauty creams, makeup, lipsticks, or whatever you decide. You could also dedicate an entire box to be a manicure or pedicure box and keep everything you need in that one box by itself.
Ice Cube Trays
I thought this idea was genius. I used to do this, and I still do. If you have single eyeshadow shades, this is a great way to store your eyeshadows. I still have singles, so this is a great way to keep track of them. You can also store earrings and other small items as well. This really makes for great organization.
Use A Tiered Stand
A tiered stand is a great way to showcase some of your makeup from some of the ideas I mentioned above. You could use the pink pencil / makeup organizer from above and this tiered stand to organize your entire makeup stash. I got this one from Target months ago in the dollar bin section. I am not sure if they still have anything like this there. Here is another tiered stand option I found from Amazon.
Organizer From Amazon
Technically this next organizer I am about to talk about is listed on Amazon as a 3 drawer jewelry box but this also makes a great makeup organizer as well. I bought this months ago and I absolutely love it. It is actually in my office and I stash lipsticks and lip gloss in it. In the bottom drawer I think I have a few necklaces as well. What is good about this is, it is a space saver and you can fit quite a bit of makeup or jewelry inside. I love this; in addition to it being pink it works really well.
A Tray
A makeup tray is a great way to showcase some of your makeup. I found this one on Amazon months ago when I was decorating my office and I actually put my favorite perfume on it, along with some faux flowers. But you could showcase some pretty makeup as well as some perfume like I did. If not, you can also put your brushes and other makeup items in this makeup brush organizer. I found a similar tray to the one I have right here.
Makeup organization is something I am definitely guilty of not doing enough of. But once I started looking around the house I was able to come up with a lot of different uses for the storage ideas I just talked about.
